Why did the Israelites want more time to send away the foreign women?

The Israelites wanted more time to send away the foreign women because the people were many and they had done much to rebel in this matter and therefore it would take them more than a day or two to complete the proccess and since it was the rainy season they did not have the strength to stand in the outdoors and complete the process.
