and if he did not spare the ancient world…but brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly

God destroyed the ancient world and the ungodly people with a flood.

but did preserve Noah

God saved righteous Noah from the flood.

reduced the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes

God used fire to destroy the ungodly in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

as an example of what is to come

Just as Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by fire, at the end of the age God will destroy all the ungodly people by the lake of fire.
