Yahweh
This is the name of God that he revealed to his people in the Old Testament. See the note on the Important Term page concerning how to translate this.

Get up and go to Nineveh, that great city
"Go to the important city of Nineveh"
speak out against it

got up to run away from the presence of Yahweh

and go to Tarshish
"and to go to Tarshish" or "and went to Tarshish." The fact that Tarshish was in not in the same direction as Nineveh can be made explicit: "and went in the wrong direction toward Tarshish" (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-explicit)
He went down to Joppa
"Jonah went to Joppa"

This is like a truck that floats on water.
So he paid the fare
"There Jonah paid for the trip"
and boarded the ship
"and got on the ship"
with them
The word "them" refers to the others who were going on the ship.
