Connecting Statement:
Here Matthew quotes the prophet Isaiah to show that Jesus' ministry fulfilled scripture.

All occurrences of these words refer to God. Isaiah is quoting what God said to him.
my beloved one, in whom my soul is well pleased
"he is my beloved one, and I am very pleased with him"
in whom my soul is well pleased

he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles
The means that God's servant will tell the Gentiles that there will be justice. It can be stated clearly that God is the one who will bring about justice, and the abstract noun "justice" can be expressed as "what is right."
