Issachar

Facts:

Issachar was Jacobs ninth son. He was Leahs fifth son. His descendants became one of the tribes of Israel.

  • The tribe descended from him was known as the “tribe of Issachar” or “Issachar.”
  • The meaning of the name is unknown, but it is similar to a Hebrew word meaning “reward, hire.”
  • The tribe of Issachar settled in central Canaan, southwest of the Sea of Galilee. Issachars land was bordered by the lands of Naphtali, Zebulun, Manasseh, and Gad.
