But Jesus said to Satan, “It is written

Jesus refused to do what Satan asked. This can be clearly stated: “But Jesus said to Satan, No, I will not do that because it is written.’” (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-explicit)

Jesus said to Satan, “It is written in Gods word, People do not only need bread in order to live, but they need everything that God tells them!’”

This is a direct quotation. It can be stated as an indirect quotation: “Jesus told Satan that it is written in Gods word, People do not only need bread in order to live, but they need everything that God tells them!’” (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-quotations)

People do not only need bread in order to live, but they need everything that God tells them!

This is a quotation within a quotation. The entire quotation can be restated so that this portion is an indirect quotation: “It is written in Gods word that people do not only need bread in order to live, but they need everything that God tells them!” (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-quotesinquotes)

bread

Make sure that you use the same word to translate “bread” here as you did in 25:02. (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-synecdoche)

but they need everything that God tells them!

Another way to translate this would be, “Rather, people need to listen to and obey everything God says” or, “Rather, people have real life by believing and obeying what God says.”
