# the anger of Yahweh and his jealousy will smolder

Just as a fire can grow in intensity, so can God's anger and Jealousy grow in intensity. Alternate translation: "Yahweh's jealous anger will grow like a fire" (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/jit/figs-metaphor]])

This means God will completely destroy the person and his family. In the future people will not remember him. A similar phrase appears in [Deuteronomy 7:24](../07/24.md).
