\c 1
\p
\v 1 \add I am\add* Micah. I am from \add the town of\add* Moresheth \add tin Judah\add*. Yahweh gave me these \add messages in\add* visions about Samaria and Jerusalem during the time when Jotham, \add and then\add* Ahaz, and \add then\add* Hezekiah, were the kings of Judah.
\s1 Yahweh will punish Samaria
\q1
\v 2 You people everywhere on the earth, pay attention to this [DOU]!
\q2 Yahweh our God is accusing you from his holy temple \add in heaven\add*.
\q1
\v 3 He will come down \add from heaven\add*
\q2 and walk on the tops of the highest mountains.
\q1
\v 4 \add It will be as though\add* the mountains will melt under his feet
\q2 like [SIM] wax melts in front of a fire,
\q1 and like [SIM] water \add disappears\add*
\q2 when it rushes/flows down into a valley.
\q1
\v 5 Those things will happen because of the terrible sins [DOU] that the people [MTY] of Israel, \add the descendants of\add* Jacob, have committed.
\q2 But it was [RHQ] \add the people of\add* Samaria \add city who persuaded all the people of\add* Israel to sin,
\q1 and it was [RHQ] because the people of Jerusalem \add set up altars to worship their gods\add*
\q2 that \add the other people of\add* Judah \add were persuaded to worship idols on\add* their hilltops.
\b
\q1
\v 6 So Yahweh will cause Samaria to become a heap of rubble/ruins;
\q2 it will be \add only\add* a field for planting vineyards.
\q1 He will cause the stones of its buildings to roll down into the valley,
\q2 and the foundations of the buildings will be uncovered.
\q1
\v 7 All the idols in Samaria will be smashed,
\q2 and the gifts \add given to prostitutes at the temples of their idols\add* will be destroyed in a fire.
\q1 And because people paid prostitutes there,
\q2 \add their enemies will take away those idols and sell them\add* to get money to pay to prostitutes \add in other countries\add*.
\s1 Micah mourned for Judah also
\q1
\v 8 Because \add Samaria will be destroyed\add*, I will weep and wail.
\q2 I will walk around ◄barefoot/without any sandals on my feet► and naked.
\q1 I will howl like a jackal/wolf
\q2 and screech like an owl,
\q1
\v 9 because Samaria will be completely destroyed [MET];
\q2 nothing can save that city.
\q1 But the same thing will happen to Judah!
\q2 \add It is as though\add* the enemy army has already reached the city gates of Jerusalem,
\q2 \add the main city where\add* my people \add live\add*.
\q1
\v 10 Do not tell that to \add our enemies\add* in Gath \add city in Philistia\add*
\q2 Do not cry, \add lest the people there find out what is happening\add*
\q1 Instead, just roll in the dirt in Beth-Leaphrah \add because the name of that town means ❛house of dust❜\add*.
\q1
\v 11 You people who live in Shaphir, \add town whose name means ❛beautiful❜\add*,
\q2 naked and ashamed, you will be taken \add to another country\add*.
\q1 You people in Beth-Ezel \add town\add* should mourn,
\q2 because no one from Zaanan \add town whose name means ❛one who goes out❜\add*, will go out to help you.
\q1
\v 12 \add The name of\add* Maroth \add town sounds like ❛bitterness❜\add*,
\q2 and everyone there is anxiously waiting for good things to happen to them,
\q1 but good things will not happen to them;
\q2 instead, terrible things are about to happen to them,
\q2 and it will soon happen at the gates of Jerusalem.
\q1
\v 13 You people of Lachish \add city whose name sounds like ❛team❜\add*,
\q2 hitch your horses to pull the chariots \add in which you can ride to flee from your enemies\add*:
\q1 The Israeli people rebelled against Yahweh,
\q2 and you ◄imitated them/did the same evil things that they did►,
\q1 and that caused the people of Jerusalem [IDI] to start sinning, too.
\q1
\v 14 \add You people of Judah\add*, send a farewell gift to \add the people\add* of Moresheth \add town\add*,
\q2 \add because their enemies will soon destroy it\add*.
\q1 \add The name of the town Aczib means ❛deception❜\add*,
\q2 and the kings of Israel \add will soon find out that the people of that town\add* will deceive them.
\q1
\v 15 \add The name of your town of\add* Mareshah \add means ❛conqueror❜\add*,
\q2 and Yahweh will soon send someone to conquer your town.
\q1 \add It will be necessary for\add* the great/glorious leaders of Israel to go \add and hide in the cave at\add* Adullam \add city\add*.
\q1
\v 16 \add You people of Judah\add*, shave your heads while you will be mourning,
\q2 because your children whom you love will \add soon\add* be ◄exiled/forced to leave you and go to another country►.
\c 2
\s1 Yahweh will punish those who oppress the poor
\q1
\v 1 Terrible things will happen to you who lie awake at night,
\q2 planning to do wicked things.
\q1 Then you get up at dawn, and you do those things,
\q2 \add as soon as\add* you are able to do them.
\q1
\v 2 You want fields \add that belong to other people\add*,
\q2 so you seize them;
\q2 you also take their houses.
\q1 You cheat people to get their homes,
\q2 taking away the property that belongs to their families.
\p
\v 3 Therefore, this is what Yahweh says:
\q1 “I will cause you people to experience disasters,
\q2 and you will not be able to escape [MTY] from them.
\q1 You will no longer walk around proudly,
\q2 because when those things happen, it will be a time of much trouble for you.
\q1
\v 4 At that time, \add your enemies\add* will make fun of you;
\q2 they will ridicule you by singing this sad song:
\q1 We are completely ruined;
\q2 Yahweh is taking our land/fields from us,
\q1 and he will give it to those who will capture us.’”
\q1
\v 5 So \add when it is the time for the land to be given back to you\add* people who belong to Yahweh,
\q2 there will be no one [MTY] who will be able to ◄cast lots/throw marked stones► to determine which land belongs to whom.
\s1 False prophets
\q1
\v 6 The people \add who heard me say that\add* replied to me,
\q2 “Do not prophesy such things!
\q2 Do not say that \add Yahweh\add* is going to humiliate us \add by causing us to experience disasters\add*!”
\q1
\v 7 But you people [MTY] of Israel should not [RHQ] talk like that!
\q2 The Spirit of Yahweh will certainly not [RHQ] be \add patient with people who say such things\add*
\q2 People who continually do things that are righteous will certainly [RHQ] like/appreciate what I say.
\q1
\v 8 \add But Yahweh says\add*,
\q2 “\add Recently\add* my people have been acting toward me like an enemy.
\q1 When soldiers return from fighting \add against their enemies\add*,
\q1 you \add rich people refuse to return the coats of those poor soldiers who have borrowed money from you\add*
\q2 \add and given you their coats to guarantee that they will pay back the money that they borrowed from you\add*.
\q2 \add It is as though\add* you are waiting to forcefully take their coats off their backs!
\q1
\v 9 You have forced women to leave their nice homes,
\q2 and you have stolen from their children forever the ◄blessings/good things► that I wanted to give them.
\q1
\v 10 So get up and leave here!
\q2 This is not a place where you can rest \add and be safe/protected\add*,
\q1 because you have ◄defiled it/caused it to be a place that I hate►;
\q2 it will be completely destroyed.
\q1
\v 11 \add You people want\add* a prophet who will lie to you,
\q2 saying I will preach \add that you should drink\add* plenty of wine and other alcoholic drinks!
\q2 That is the kind of prophet who \add would please\add* you.”
\s1 Yahweh promised to restore them
\q1
\v 12 “But some day, you descendants of Jacob, I will bring back \add from ◄exile/other countries►\add* the Israeli people who have survived.
\q1 I will gather you together
\q2 like [SIM] a shepherd gathers his sheep from the pasture into a pen [DOU],
\q2 and there will be many of you in your land/country.
\q1
\v 13 Your leader will enable them to leave the countries where they have been exiled;
\q2 he will lead them out of the gates \add of their enemies' cities\add*,
\q2 back to your own country.
\q1 Your king will lead them;
\q2 it is I, Yahweh, who will be their king!”
\c 3
\s1 Micah rebuked the Israeli leaders
\p
\v 1 Then I said, “You Israeli [MTY] leaders, listen to what I say!
\q1 You should certainly [RHQ] know what things are right \add to do\add*
\q2 \add and what things are wrong\add*,
\q1
\v 2 but you hate what is good
\q1 and you love what is evil.
\q2 \add You act like butchers\add*:
\q1 \add It is as though\add* you strip the skin off my people
\q2 and tear the flesh from their bones.
\q1
\v 3 \add It is as though\add* you chop them into pieces like [SIM] meat \add to be cooked\add* in a pot.
\q1
\v 4 Then, \add when you have troubles\add*, you plead to Yahweh \add to help you\add*,
\q2 but he will not answer you.
\q1 At that time, he will turn his face away from you
\q2 because of the evil things that you have done.”
\b
\p
\v 5 This is what Yahweh says
\q1 about your false prophets are deceiving the people:
\q2 “If someone gives them food,
\q1 those prophets say that things will go well for him.
\q2 But they declare war against anyone who does not give them food.
\q1
\v 6 So now \add it is as though\add* [MET] night will descend on you prophets;
\q2 you will not receive any more visions.
\q1 \add It is as though\add* [MET] the sun will set for you;
\q2 the time \add when you are greatly honored\add* will end.
\q1
\v 7 Then you ◄seers/people who predict what will happen in the future► [DOU] will be disgraced;
\q2 you will cover your faces \add because you will be ashamed,\add*
\q2 because when you ask me \add what will happen\add*, there will be no answer from me.”
\b
\q1
\v 8 But as for me, I am full of \add God's\add* power,
\q2 power from the Spirit of Yahweh.
\q1 I am courageous and strong
\q2 to declare to the Israeli people [MTY, DOU]
\q2 that they have sinned and rebelled \add against Yahweh\add*.
\q1
\v 9 You leaders of the people [MTY] of Israel, listen to this!
\q2 You hate it when people do what is just,
\q1 and when people say what is true,
\q2 you distort it, saying it is false.
\q1
\v 10 \add It is as though\add* you are building \add houses in\add* Jerusalem on foundations
\q2 that consist of murdering people and doing what is corrupt.
\q1
\v 11 Your leaders make \add favorable\add* decisions \add only if they receive\add* bribes.
\q2 Your priests teach people only if those people pay them well.
\q2 Your false prophets require people to pay them to tell people what will happen to them in the future.
\q1 Those prophets say, “Yahweh is telling us \add what we should say\add*,
\q2 and we say that we will not experience any disasters.”
\q1
\v 12 Because of what you \add leaders do\add*,
\q2 Zion Hill will be plowed like a field;
\q1 it will become a heap of ruins/rubble;
\q2 the top of the hill, where the temple is now, will be covered with bushes.
\c 4
\s1 Yahweh's future rule
\p
\v 1 Yahweh says that some day his temple will be on top of a mountain,
\q1 and that mountain will be the most important [MET] one on the earth;
\q2 it will be \add as though it is\add* higher than all the hills,
\q1 and huge groups of people from all over the world will come there \add to worship\add*.
\p
\v 2 People from many nations will say to each other,
\q1 “Let's go to the mountain where Yahweh is,
\q2 to the temple where we can worship the God whom Jacob \add worshiped\add*.
\q1 There God will teach us how he wants us to conduct our lives,
\q2 and we will do what he wants us to do.”
\q1 Zion \add Hill\add* is the place where he will teach people;
\q2 and \add people will\add* go out from Jerusalem \add to tell others\add* his messages.
\q1
\v 3 Yahweh will settle disputes between many people,
\q2 and he will also settle disputes between powerful nations that are far away.
\q1 Then people will hammer their swords to cause them to become plow blades,
\q2 and hammer their spears to cause them to become pruning knives.
\q1 \add Armies of\add* nations will no longer fight against \add armies of other\add* nations,
\q2 and they will no longer train \add men how to fight\add* in wars.
\q1
\v 4 Everyone will sit \add peacefully\add* under his own grapevines,
\q2 and under his own fig trees;
\q1 no one will cause them to be afraid.
\q2 \add That is what will surely happen\add* because the Almighty Commander of the armies of angels has said it.
\q1
\v 5 Many of [HYP] \add the people of other\add* nations will worship [IDI] their own gods,
\q2 but we will worship Yahweh our God always, forever.
\s1 The Israeli people will return from exile
\p
\v 6 Yahweh says, “There will soon be a time when I will gather the people whom I have punished,
\q1 who have been ◄exiled/forced to go to other countries►,
\q2 all those whom I have caused to suffer much.
\q1
\v 7 My people who did not die while they were exiled will become a strong nation again.
\q1 Then I, Yahweh, will be their king,
\q2 and I will rule from Jerusalem forever.
\q1
\v 8 As for you people of Jerusalem [MET]
\q2 who guard \add all of my people\add* like [MET] \add a shepherd guards his sheep\add* from a tower,
\q1 you \add who live on\add* Zion \add Hill\add* will have great power again.
\q2 You people who live in Jerusalem will again rule like you did previously.
\b
\q1
\v 9 So why [RHQ] are you wailing now?
\q2 Is it because you have no king?
\q1 Have all your wise people died?
\q2 You are weeping loudly like [SIM] a woman who is giving birth to a baby.
\q1
\v 10 Well, you people of Jerusalem should twist and groan like [SIM] a woman who is having birth pains,
\q2 because now you must leave this city,
\q1 and \add while you are traveling\add*, you will set up tents in open fields \add at night\add*;
\q2 you will go to \add live in\add* Babylon.
\q1 But while you are there,
\q2 I, Yahweh, will rescue you;
\q1 I will free you from the power/control [MTY] of your enemies.
\b
\q1
\v 11 Now \add the armies of\add* many nations have gathered to attack you.
\q2 They are saying, Jerusalem must be destroyed!
\q2 We want to see this city \add when it becomes ruins\add*!
\q1
\v 12 But they do not know what I, Yahweh, think,
\q2 and they do not understand what I plan:
\q1 I will gather them and punish them
\q2 like [SIM] \add farmers\add* thresh grain on the ground.
\b
\q1
\v 13 So, you people of Jerusalem, rise up and punish [MET] \add the nations who oppose you\add*.
\q2 I will cause you \add to be very strong\add*,
\q1 \add as if\add* [MET] you had horns made of iron,
\q2 as if [MET] you had hoofs made of bronze;
\q2 and you will crush many nations.
\b
\q1 And \add then you will take\add* from your enemies the valuable things that they have taken \add from other countries\add*,
\q2 and you will dedicate those things to me, the one who is the Lord of all \add the people on\add* the earth.”
\c 5
\q1
\v 1 “But now, you people of Jerusalem, gather your troops together,
\q2 \add even though\add* you have a wall \add around your city to protect it\add*,
\q1 enemy soldiers are surrounding the city.
\q2 And soon with a rod they will strike your leader on his face.”
\s1 A ruler will come from Bethlehem
\q1
\v 2 But you \add people of\add* [APO] Bethlehem in Ephrathah \add district need to know that\add*
\q2 even though your \add town\add* is a very small one among all the towns in Judah,
\q2 someone who will rule Israel will be born in your town.
\q1 He will be someone whose family existed a very long time ago [DOU].
\b
\q1
\v 3 \add But now\add* you people of Israel will be conquered by your enemies;
\q2 \add but it will be for only a short time\add*,
\q1 like [MET] \add the short time that\add* women have great pain while their babies are being born.
\q2 After that, your fellow-countrymen who were ◄exiled/forced to go to other countries► will return to their own country.
\b
\q1
\v 4 And that man who will be ruling \add there in Jerusalem\add* will stand and lead his people well,
\q2 because Yahweh, his God, will cause him to be strong and greatly honored.
\q1 Then the people whom he rules will live \add in Jerusalem\add* safely;
\q2 he will be greatly honored by people all over the earth
\q2 \add so no one will dare to attack Jerusalem\add*.
\q2
\v 5 And he will cause things to go well \add with his people\add*.
\s1 Yahweh will rescue some and get rid of others
\q1 When \add the army of\add* Assyria attacks our country
\q2 and breaks though our fortresses,
\q1 we will appoint ◄seven or eight/several► leaders \add to lead our army\add* to fight against them.
\q1
\v 6 With their swords \add our army\add* will defeat the army of Assyria, \add whose capital was founded by\add* Nimrod \add long ago\add*.
\q1 So our army will rescue us from the Assyrian army
\q2 when they invade our country [DOU].
\b
\q1
\v 7 The ◄descendants of Jacob/Israelis► who survive will be \add a blessing\add* to the people of other nations
\q2 like [SIM] dew and rain sent by Yahweh do good to the grass.
\q1 The Israelis will not trust in humans \add to help them\add*;
\q2 instead, they will rely on Yahweh.
\q1
\v 8 In the midst of \add their enemies in\add* many people-groups [DOU],
\q2 the descendants of Jacob who remain alive will be like [SIM] a lion among the other wild beasts of the forest,
\q1 like [SIM] a young lion who goes among a flock of sheep and pounces on one and ◄mauls it/tears it to pieces►,
\q2 and no one can rescue that sheep.
\q1
\v 9 You Israelis will defeat [MTY] all your enemies
\q2 and completely destroy them.
\b
\p
\v 10 Yahweh says,
\q1 “At that time, I will destroy \add you Israeli people's\add* horses \add that your soldiers use in\add* war
\q2 and your chariots.
\q1
\v 11 I will tear down your city \add walls\add*
\q2 and destroy all your fortified cities.
\q1
\v 12 I will get rid of all those among you who practice magic
\q2 and the ◄fortune-tellers/those who say that they can predict what will happen in the future►.
\q1
\v 13 I will destroy all your idols and \add sacred stone\add* pillars,
\q2 and then you will no longer bow down \add and worship\add* things that you yourselves [SYN] have made.
\q1
\v 14 I will get rid of your poles \add that represent the goddess\add* Asherah,
\q2 and I will also destroy all your idols.
\q1
\v 15 And because I will be very angry,
\q2 I will also punish \add the people of\add* all the nations who have not obeyed me.”
\c 6
\s1 Yahweh accuses his people
\p
\v 1 Pay attention to what Yahweh says \add to you Israeli people\add*:
\q1 “Stand up \add in court\add* and state what you are accusing me about.
\q2 And allow the hills and mountains to hear what you will say.
\q1
\v 2 But then you mountains must also listen carefully [DOU] to what I, Yahweh, am complaining \add about my people\add*.
\q2 I have something to say about what [DOU] my Israeli people are doing that displeases me.
\b
\q1
\v 3 My people, what have I done to \add cause trouble for\add* you [RHQ]?
\q2 What have I done to cause you to experience difficulties?
\q1 Answer me!
\q1
\v 4 I \add did great things for your ancestors\add*;
\q2 I brought them out of Egypt;
\q2 I rescued them from that land where they were slaves.
\q1 I sent Moses to \add lead\add* them,
\q2 and \add his older brother\add* Aaron and \add his older sister\add* Miriam.
\q1
\v 5 My people, think about when Balak, the king of Moab, requested Beor's son Balaam \add to curse your ancestors\add*,
\q2 and think about what Balaam replied.
\q1 Think about \add how your ancestors crossed the Jordan River miraculously while\add* they were traveling from Acacia to Gilgal.
\q2 Think about those things in order that you may know that I, Yahweh, do what is right.”
\b
\q1
\v 6 \add The Israeli people ask\add*, “What shall we bring to Yahweh \add who lives in\add* heaven
\q2 when we come to him and bow down before him?
\q1 Should we bring calves that are a year-old
\q2 that will be offerings that will be \add killed and\add* completely burned \add on the altar\add*?
\q1
\v 7 Will Yahweh be pleased \add if we offer to him\add* a thousand rams
\q2 and ten thousand streams of \add olive\add* oil?
\q1 Should we offer our firstborn children \add to be sacrifices\add*
\q2 to pay for the sins that we have committed [DOU]?”
\q1
\v 8 \add No, because\add* he has shown each of us what is good to do;
\q2 he has shown [RHQ] us what he requires each of us to do:
\q1 He wants us to do what is just/fair and to love to act mercifully toward others,
\q2 and he wants us to live humbly \add while we fellowship\add* with him, our God.
\s1 The people of Israel are guilty and must be punished
\q1
\v 9 “I am Yahweh, so if you are wise, you should revere me.
\q2 I am calling out to \add you people of\add* Jerusalem,
\q1 The armies [MET] that will destroy your city are coming,
\q2 so pay careful attention to me, the one who is causing them to punish you with my rod.
\q1
\v 10 Do you think that [RHQ] I should forget that you wicked people filled your homes with valuable things
\q2 that you acquired by cheating others?
\q1 Do you think that [RHQ] I should forget that you used false measures \add when you bought and sold things\add*?
\q2 Those are things that I hate.
\q1
\v 11 \add Do you think\add* that [RHQ] I should say nothing about people who use scales that do not weigh correctly,
\q2 and who use weights that are not accurate?
\q1
\v 12 The rich people among you always act violently \add to get money from poor people\add*.
\q2 All of the people \add in Jerusalem\add* are liars,
\q2 and they [SYN] always deceive people.
\q1
\v 13 Therefore, I have already begun to get rid of you,
\q2 to ruin you because of the sins that you have committed.
\q1
\v 14 \add Soon\add* you will eat food, but you will not have enough to satisfy you;
\q2 your stomachs will \add still feel as though they are\add* empty.
\q1 You will try to save up \add money\add*,
\q2 but you will be able to save nothing,
\q1 because I will send your enemies to take it from you in wars [MTY].
\q1
\v 15 You will plant \add crops/seed\add*,
\q2 but you will not harvest anything.
\q1 You will press olives,
\q2 but \add others\add*, not you, will use the olive oil.
\q1 You will trample on the grapes \add and make wine from the juice\add*,
\q2 but \add others\add*, not you, will drink the wine.
\q1
\v 16 \add Those things will happen to you because\add* you obey only the wicked laws of \add King\add* Omri,
\q2 and \add you do the terrible things that wicked King\add* Ahab and his descendants commanded.
\q1 So, I will destroy your country,
\q2 and I will cause your people to be despised;
\q2 people of other nations will insult you.’”
\c 7
\s1 Micah's misery and his hope
\q1
\v 1 I am very miserable/frustrated!
\q1 I am like [SIM] someone who is hungry, \add who searches for fruit to pick\add*
\q2 after all the fruit had been picked
\q1 and who finds no grapes or figs to eat.
\q1
\v 2 All the godly people have disappeared from this land;
\q2 there is not one of them left.
\q1 \add The people who are left\add* are all murderers [MTY];
\q2 \add it is as though\add* everyone is eager to kill his fellow countryman.
\q1
\v 3 They all use both hands to do what is evil.
\q2 \add Government\add* officials and judges all ask for bribes.
\q1 Important people tell others what they want,
\q2 and they plot/scheme together \add about how to get it done\add*.
\q1
\v 4 Even the best people are \add as worthless\add* [SIM] as briers;
\q2 the people \add who are considered by others to be\add* [IRO] the most honest are worse than clumps of thornbushes.
\q1 But, \add Yahweh\add* will soon judge them;
\q2 now is the time that he will punish people,
\q2 a time when they will be very confused \add because of being defeated\add*.
\q1
\v 5 So, do not trust anyone!
\q2 Do not trust \add even\add* a friend;
\q1 even be careful what you say to your wife whom you love!
\q1
\v 6 Boys will despise their fathers,
\q2 and girls will defy their mothers.
\q1 Women will defy their mothers-in-law.
\q2 Your enemies will be those who live in your own houses.
\b
\q1
\v 7 As for me, I wait for Yahweh \add to help me\add*.
\q2 I confidently expect that God, my Savior, will answer me when I pray.
\s1 Yahweh will rescue his people
\q1
\v 8 You who are our enemies,
\q2 do not gloat/rejoice about \add what has happened to\add* us,
\q1 because even if we have experienced disasters,
\q2 \add those disasters will end and\add* we will be restored.
\q1 Even if \add it is as though\add* we are sitting in the darkness,
\q2 Yahweh will be our light.
\q1
\v 9 We must be patient while Yahweh punishes us
\q2 because we have sinned against him.
\q1 But later, \add it will be as though\add* he will go to court and defend us,
\q2 and he will make sure that the judge makes a right decision about us.
\q1 \add It will be as though\add* he will bring us out into the light,
\q2 and we will see it when he rescues us.
\q1
\v 10 Our enemies will also see that, and they will be disgraced
\q2 because they \add ridiculed us\add*, saying
\q1 “Why is [RHQ] Yahweh, that God of yours, \add not helping you\add*?”
\q2 But with our own eyes we will see them when they are defeated;
\q2 we will see them trampled
\q2 like [SIM] mud in the streets.
\b
\q1
\v 11 \add You people of Israel\add*, at that time your cities will be rebuilt,
\q2 and your territory will become larger.
\q1
\v 12 \add People from many countries will come to honor you\add*:
\q2 People from Assyria and from near the \add Euphrates\add* River \add in the east\add* and from Egypt \add in the south\add*,
\q1 from the \add Dead\add* Sea to the \add Mediterranean\add* Sea,
\q2 and from many mountains.
\q1
\v 13 But \add the other countries on\add* the earth will become desolate
\q2 because of the evil deeds that their people have done.
\s1 Micah's prayer and Yahweh's answer
\q1
\v 14 Yahweh, protect your people like [MET] \add a shepherd protects his sheep\add* by using his walking stick;
\q2 lead your people [MET] whom you have chosen to belong to you.
\q1 Even though \add some of them\add* live by themselves in a forest,
\q2 give them the fertile pastureland
\q1 in the Bashan and Gilead \add regions\add*
\q2 that they possessed long ago.
\b
\p
\v 15 Yahweh says/replies,
\q1 “Yes, I will perform miracles for you
\q2 like the miracles that I performed when I rescued your \add ancestors\add* from \add being slaves in\add* Egypt.”
\b
\q1
\v 16 \add People from many\add* nations will see \add what Yahweh does for you\add*,
\q1 and they will be ashamed
\q2 because they do not have any power.
\q1 They will put their hands over their mouths and their ears \add because they will be very amazed because of what Yahweh does\add*,
\q2 \add and they will not be able to say anything or hear anything\add*.
\q1
\v 17 \add Being very humiliated\add*, they will crawl on the ground [MTY] like [SIM] snakes.
\q1 They will come out of their homes trembling,
\q2 and stand revering Yahweh our God.
\q1 They will be very afraid of him,
\q2 and will tremble in front of him.
\q1
\v 18 Yahweh, there is no [RHQ] God like you;
\q2 you forgive the sins [DOU] that were committed by the people who have survived,
\q2 the people who belong to you.
\q1 You do not remain angry forever;
\q2 you are very happy \add to show us\add* that you faithfully love us.
\q1
\v 19 You will again act kindly/compassionately toward us.
\q2 You will get rid of \add the scroll on which you have written\add* the sins that we have committed
\q2 \add as though you were\add* trampling it under your feet
\q2 or throwing it into the deep ocean.
\q1
\v 20 You will show that you faithfully \add do what you promised for us\add* and faithfully love us,
\q2 just like you solemnly promised long ago to our ancestors Abraham and Jacob that you would do.
