| In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying, | I am Zechariah, a prophet, the son of Berechiah and grandson of Iddo. When Darius had been the emperor of Persia for almost two years, in the eighth month of that year, Yahweh gave me this message: |
Zechariah prophesied during the reign of Darius.
Zechariah was the son of Berechiah and the grandson of Iddo, and he was a prophet.

The prophets who lived before you continually told your ancestors that Yahweh, the commander of the heavenly armies, said, ‘Stop doing the evil things that you are doing!’ However, they refused to listen to me or pay attention to me,” solemnly declares Yahweh. |

| And if the clan of Egypt does not go up and does not come, then not on them. There will be the plague with which Yahweh strikes the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Booths. | If the people of Egypt do not go up to Jerusalem to worship there, Yahweh will not judge them the same way. {Since they depend on the Nile River rather than on rain, Yahweh will} cause them to have the same diseases experienced by all the other nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Shelters. |

| On that day there will be on the bells of the horse, “Holy to Yahweh.” And the pots in the house of Yahweh will be like the bowls to the face of the altar. | At that time, someone will engrave the words “Sacred to Yahweh” on the bells that hang on the horses. People will consider the cooking pots in the temple of Yahweh to be just as sacred as the bowls that the priests use in front of the altar. |
The bells of the horses will be inscribed with words saying that they are holy to Yahweh.
