Moses was east of the Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain of the Jordan River valley.

Moses spoke to the people in the fortieth year after they had left Egypt.

Yahweh had promised to give the land to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and to their descendants.

There were too many of them since God had multiplied them and made them as numerous as the stars of the heavens.

The people would choose wise, understanding, and well-known men from each tribe and appoint these men leaders to help Moses.

He commanded them to hear and judge righteously concerning the quarrels and cases the Israelites had with each other or with any foreigner who lived among them.

They traveled through all the great and terrible wilderness.

They asked Moses to send men ahead to explore the land and report back about it.

He chose one man from each of the 12 tribes.

They reported that the land that Yahweh was giving them was good.

They said Yahweh hated them and he brought them out of the land of Egypt to destroy them.

They said that the people of the land were stronger and taller than the Israelites and had fortified cities.

He told them not to be afraid, because Yahweh would go before them and would fight for them like he did in Egypt and in the wilderness.

He said that not one of these men would see the good land except Caleb.

Yahweh told Moses to encourage Joshua for he would lead Israel to occupy the land.

He said their children will go in and will possess the land.

They were arrogant and went up to the hill country to fight anyway.

They journeyed into the wilderness on the way to the Sea of Reeds.

They were not to fight the descendants of Esau, who live near Mount Seir, for Yahweh had given that land to them.

They were to buy food and water from the people living there so they could eat and drink.

They were not to trouble or fight with the people of Moab because Yahweh had given that land to them.

It took them 38 years from when they left until they crossed wadi of Zered.

All the men who had been old enough to fight had died.

Yahweh had given that land to the descendants of Lot.

They will tremble and be afraid because of what they hear about the Israelites.

Moses asked that they be allowed to pass through his land, staying on the road and not turning to the right or left.

He asked the king to sell him food and water so the Israelites could eat and drink.

Yahweh allowed Moses and his people to defeated him, killing him, his son, and all his people.

Moses captured all the king’s cities and destroyed them, including women and children, leaving no survivors.

As Israel approached the land of Bashan, the king and all his soldiers came and attacked them.

They defeated the king of Bashan, killing him and all his people, leaving no survivors.

They took for themselves all the cattle and the spoil of the cities.

He gave it to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half of the tribe of Manasseh.

He commanded them to cross over the Jordan River to help the rest of the people of Israel conquer that land.

Yahweh said they could return to their own land after the rest of the Israelites captured the land that God was giving to them.

He told Joshua not to fear the enemy because Yahweh would be the one who would fight for him.

He asked Yahweh to let him go see the good land across the Jordan River and in Lebanon.

Yahweh was angry with Moses because of what the people had done and did not listen to his request.

Yahweh told him to go up to the top of Mount Pisgah and look all around from there, for he would not cross the Jordan River.

He told Moses to instruct, encourage, and strengthen Joshua, because he would lead the people across the river to occupy the land that he could see.

They must listen and obey the laws that Moses will teach them so that they may possess the land.

They must not add to or take away from the words of the commands Moses is giving them so they will obey the commandments of Yahweh.

Yahweh destroyed the men that worshiped the Baal of Peor.

The people around them will notice that because they keep these rules, they are a nation that has wisdom and understanding.

They should guard themselves by remembering the things God has done and telling them to their children and their grandchildren.

They heard Yahweh’s voice out of the middle of the fire but did not see him.

The Ten Commandments that Yahweh gave to Moses for the people to obey were written on two tablets of stone.

They were told not to make any carved figures or idols of any thing.

He told them that they should be careful to not be seduced to worship the heavens, sun, moon, or stars.

He brought them out of Egypt to be a people who belong to him.

He declared that Moses would not cross the Jordan River into the good land.

Yahweh their God is a jealous God and wants them to worship only him.

They will perish in the land over the Jordan and be completely destroyed.

Yahweh will scatter them among other nations and only a few would survive.

They will find him when they search for him with all their heart and all their soul.

When they are in trouble and when all the bad things have come on them, they will return to Yahweh.

God chose for himself all these people from the midst of another nation, by using his great power when he performed miracles, sent plagues, and fought the Egyptians for them.

He allowed them to hear his voice speak from heaven, and on earth he made them see his great fire and hear his voice coming from it.

He chose their descendants and brought them out of Egypt with his great power. He gave them their land after driving out the more powerful nations.

He could flee to one of the three cities that Moses had selected on the east side of the Jordan River.

He gave them the law which included all the instructions, rules, and regulations that he told them when they came out of Egypt.

The Israelites took the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, and Og, king of Bashan.

Yahweh made his covenant with the people of Israel at Horeb.

They were afraid of the fire from which Yahweh was speaking so Moses stood between them in order to tell them what he said.

He told them that he is Yahweh their God, who brought them from the land of Egypt and freed them from slavery.

They should not make carved figures of any likeness of anything that is in the sky, on earth, or in the water. If they do, God will punish them and their descendants.

He will show covenant faithfulness to those who love him and obey his commandments.

He will not leave unpunished those who use his name for wrong purposes.

The seventh day is a day of rest which is dedicated to Yahweh their God, so they must not do any work.

He wants them to remember that they were slaves in Egypt and that God brought them out by his great power.

They will live a long time in the land that God gave them and things will go well for them there.

They should not murder, commit adultery, steal, or give false witness.

He wrote his words down on two tablets of stone and gave them to Moses.

The people said that they would be burned up by the great fire and would die.

They said they will listen and obey Yahweh’s word.

Yahweh said he heard what the people said and that what they had spoken was good.

If they keep the commandments, they will live a long time in the land and things will go well for them there.

If they keep his statutes and commandments, they will live for a long time.

He said that it was a land flowing with milk and honey.

They should love Yahweh with all their heart, all their soul, and all their strength.

They should teach the commandments to their children at every opportunity such as when they are in their house or walking on the road, lying down to rest, or getting up.

They should remember that it was Yahweh who brought them into the land he had promised them when they are enjoying every good thing that Yahweh had given them that they did not have to work for.

Yahweh will become angry with them and he will destroy them completely if they worship the gods of the people around them.

They tested Yahweh by doing sinful things to see if he would punish them or not.

They should tell their children about how they were Pharaoh’s slaves and Yahweh brought them out of Egypt and gave them the land that he promised to their ancestors.

They should fear him so that things will go well for them and so that he will protect them as a nation.

They must defeat them and destroy them completely.

They are not to make any covenants with them, show them mercy, or arrange any marriages with them for their sons or daughters.

They should break down their altars, smash their sacred stone pillars, cut down their Asherah poles, and burn their idols.

Yahweh kept his oath and rescued them from slavery to Pharaoh in Egypt.

Yahweh will keep his covenants with those who love him and keep his commandments and faithfully love them forever.

God will love them and bless them and multiply them by giving them many children, crops, and animals.

God will make them experience the same kinds of great trials and other displays of his power that they saw in Egypt.

Yahweh, who is a great and fearsome God, will be with them.

God will greatly confuse them in battle and cause them to panic until they are destroyed.

They are to burn the idols and not even keep the gold or silver they are made of, as they are to be completely destroyed.

They should remember all the ways that Yahweh led them over those 40 years in the wilderness. He was testing them to find out if they would obey his commandments or not.

He allowed them to be hungry and then fed them manna so that that they would know that they could not live only by having enough food to eat but also by paying attention to everything that Yahweh says.

Their clothing did not wear out and their feet did not swell.

As a man instructs and corrects his son, so Yahweh taught and corrected them.

The land will be filled with many sources of water, grain, fruit and olive trees, and honey.

They will thank him because of the good and fertile land that he has given them.

They were reminded not to forget Yahweh by failing to obey his commandments.

When all that they possess increases, including herds, flock, and silver and gold, they might become proud and they might forget Yahweh.

Yahweh brought water out of solid rock for them to drink and provided manna for them to eat.

They will perish if they forget their God and worship and serve other gods, because they would not listen to the voice of Yahweh.

Israel is about to cross over the Jordan.

Yahweh will go ahead of them and will destroy the nations like a devouring fire.

He told them not to think that it was because of Israel’s righteousness that Yahweh gave them the land.

He is driving them out because of their wickedness, and to keep his promise to Israel’s ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

He was angry with them because they were rebellious against him.

He did not eat or drink anything for 40 days and 40 nights on the mountain.

Yahweh told him the people had corrupted themselves by doing what Yahweh had commanded them not to do and had made for themselves an idol to worship.

Yahweh said he had seen that they were a stubborn people.

They had sinned against Yahweh by molding a calf as an idol just as he had commanded them not to do.

He threw down the tablets and broke them before their eyes, he prostrated himself before Yahweh for 40 days and nights, and did not eat or drink because of their sin.

He prayed because Yahweh was angry enough with the people and with Aaron to destroy them.

Moses burned it, crushed it, and ground it into dust and threw the dust into the stream that came down from the mountain.

They rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh by not trusting him or obeying what he told them.

He prayed that Yahweh would not destroy his people whom he had rescued and brought out of Egypt.

He is afraid the people of Egypt would say that Yahweh was not able to bring Israel into the land he had promised them but that he took them into the wilderness to kill them because he hated them.

Yahweh told him he to place the two tablets of stone into the chest of wood that Moses would make.

Yahweh wrote the same Ten Commandments on the tablets that he had written on the first tablets.

He put them into the chest that he had made as Yahweh commanded him.

Aaron died and was buried in Moserah and Eleazar, his son, took his place as priest.

Yahweh chose the tribe of Levi to carry the chest, to serve him, and to bless people in his name.

He stayed on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights, just like he did the first time.

Yahweh requires Israel to fear him, walk in all his ways, love him, worship him with all their heart and soul, and to obey his commandments.

He told them to humble themselves as if they were circumcising the foreskin of their hearts.

Israel should love the foreigner because they were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.

There were only 70 of their ancestors who went down into Egypt but now, God has made them as numerous as the stars of the heavens.

He tells them to always keep Yahweh’s rules, statutes, decrees, and commandments.

The children of the Israelites who were born while they wandered in the wilderness had not seen Yahweh’s discipline and his mighty deeds that he did in Egypt.

Yahweh caused the water of the Sea of Reeds to drown the army of Egypt as they pursued after Israel.

The Israelites had seen all the great works that Yahweh did.

If they keep all the commandments, they will be strong, go in and possess the land, and they and their descendants will live in the land for a long time.

In the land they are going to enter there are many hills and valleys and plenty of water from the rain.

Yahweh will give them rain in its season, that they may gather their grain and be able to make wine and oil.

He will become angry and will restrain the heavens so there will not be any rain.

They will write the commandments on the doorposts of their house and on their gates.

Yahweh will drive out all the other nations that are larger and mightier than they are.

Yahweh will cause the people of that land to fear and feel terror of Israel.

He gave them a blessing and a curse.

They must cross over the Jordan to possess and live in the land.

They were to destroy all the places where the nations that Israel dispossessed had worshiped their gods.

He told Israel to destroy everything to do with those gods in order to remove their name from there.

They were to go to the place that Yahweh their God would choose.

They were doing whatever they thought was right.

He will give them rest by protecting them from all their surrounding enemies, so they will live in safety.

Israel can kill and eat domesticated animals where they are living.

Israel was not allowed to eat the blood, but must pour it out on the earth.

They were not allowed to eat what was intended for tithing or sacrificing where they lived.

They were to eat these offerings in the place that Yahweh their God will choose.

They were told to not forget to take care of the Levites.

Israel can eat the meat from the new land.

If the place that Yahweh Israel’s God chooses to put his name is too far from where they live, then they may kill some of their flock for sacrifices as well as to eat.

Israel was to consider the blood as the life of the animal and thus should not eat it with the meat.

Israel is to take the sacred things that they have and their offerings to the place that Yahweh chooses.

They are to pour the blood out on the altar of Yahweh their God and eat the meat.

Israel is to listen to and obey all the words that Yahweh commands them and do what is good and right so that things may go well for them and their descendants forever.

Israel is to pay attention so that they are not trapped into serving the gods of those nations.

The other nations have even burned their sons and daughters on altars to these other gods.

The people of Israel should not listen because Yahweh is testing them to know whether they love him with all their heart and with all their soul.

They should put that prophet to death because he has spoken against what Yahweh has commanded them.

They must surely kill anyone who entices them to worship other gods.

They should stone that person to death.

They should investigate it thoroughly to see if it is true.

They should kill the inhabitants of that city and destroy everything in it.

They must not take any of those things for themselves that Yahweh has told them to destroy, so that Yahweh will not be angry and will have compassion on them as he promised their ancestors.

They are not to cut themselves nor shave any part of their heads for the dead.

Israel may eat any animal that has split hooves and also chews the cud.

The pig is unclean for the Israelites because he has split hooves but does not chew the cud.

They may eat whatever has fins and scales.

All winged, swarming insects are unclean for the Israelites and must not be eaten.

They may not eat anything that dies naturally, but they may give it to a foreigner to eat or sell.

They must not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.

Israelites must set apart a tenth of all their crops once a year.

Israel must eat the tithe, which was a tenth of their grain, new wine, and of their oil, as well as the firstborn animals in the place that Yahweh will choose.

If the journey is too for them to carry all of the tithe of what Yahweh has blessed them with, they can sell a tenth of their crops and take the money to the place that Yahweh has chosen.

The Levites will not own any land so the others must not neglect to help them.

At the end of every three years the Israelites are to store the tithe of their produce from that year for the Levites, the foreigners, the fatherless, and the widows to have enough to eat.

At the end of every seven years the Israelites must cancel all debts.

Everyone will cancel that which he has loaned to a fellow Israelite because Yahweh has declared the cancelation of debts every seven years.

The Israelites can continue to collect payment of a debt from a foreigner.

If they do all that Yahweh has commanded them, there should no longer be poor among them since Yahweh will bless them.

Israel will lend to many nations, but will not borrow; Israel will rule over many nations, but the other nations will not rule over them.

The Israelites are told not to be selfish and refuse to help them.

They should not refuse to give help to a poor man because the year of canceling debts is near.

Yahweh will bless the Israelites in everything they do.

They should give generously because there will always be poor living among them.

They must provide for that person freely out of their flocks and their crops with which Yahweh their God has blessed them.

The Israelites are told to remember that they were slaves in the land of Egypt and Yahweh freed them.

The Israelite is to pierce the slave’s ear, and he or she will be their slave forever.

It should not be difficult because he has served them for six years and given them twice the value of a hired person.

They must set them aside for Yahweh and not use them for work or shear them.

They must not sacrifice it to Yahweh, but instead they can eat it.

The Israelites are to celebrate the Passover each year during the month of Aviv because Yahweh brought Israel out of Egypt in that month.

The Israelites will sacrifice some of the flock and the herd in the place that Yahweh will choose.

They are to eat no leavened bread or have yeast during those days to remind them that they came out of the land of Egypt with too much haste for bread to rise.

The Israelites are to make sure there is no meat that they sacrifice in the evening remaining the next morning.

They are to sacrifice at the place that Yahweh will choose.

The sacrifice of the Passover is to be performed in the evening when the sun is setting, at the time when the Israelites started to leave Egypt.

The Israelites are to eat unleavened bread for six days.

On the seventh day, they are to have a festive assembly and do no work.

The Israelites will count seven weeks from the time they begin to harvest their grain.

They must give Yahweh a freewill offering according to how much Yahweh has blessed them.

They must remember that they were slaves in Egypt.

They are to keep the Festival of Shelters for seven days after they have gathered in their harvest.

They must gather to worship Yahweh at the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks, and at the Festival of Shelters.

Every male Israelite is to give in proportion to how much Yahweh has blessed him with that year.

The judges and officers will be taken from each of their tribes to judge the people with righteous judgment.

If a judge takes a bribe, he will find it difficult to judge fairly but will instead want to do what the person who bribes him wants him to do.

They must pursue righteousness and judge fairly, so that they may live and occupy the land that Yahweh is giving them.

They are not to set up an Asherah pole or a stone pillar to worship any idol.

A sacrifice that is not perfect will be detestable to Yahweh.

The Israelites are to investigate thoroughly to know if this is true and that the idol worship is actually happening.

The Israelites are to stone that person to death.

Two or three witnesses are needed to convict a person to death.

The witnesses must be the first to throw the stones, followed by the rest of the people of Israel.

This will get remove this evil from among them.
